Faqs

1. What is Pasture Raised?

Pasture raised chickens are raised on grass or "pasture" allowing the natural cycle of the chicken to happen. Each chicken get 65sqft of living space, fresh bedding daily, fresh natural bugs daily, fresh salad bar of vegetation daily, and sunlight.

2. Pasture Raised? or Free Ranged?

Pasture Raised. Not Free Ranged. Why though? Great question, we asked the same thing when we started raising them.

Chickens are fairly prone to aerial predators like hawks & vultures. Having them pasture raised in a chicken tractor protects them from these aerial predators.

3. Am I buying a live chicken?

When you pick your whole pasture raised chickens up, they will be processed, ready to cook. We do suggest adding your favorite seasoning, first.

4. Do you deliver?

We are located in Harrison, TN and raise enough chickens to feed ourselves, and sell 100 to friends, family, and neighbors. Because we only sell locally, and the government has some unfavorable rules and regulations for small farmers like ourselves... we do not deliver.

The only caveat to that is, we do have a drop off location at Sweat Club in Red Bank. If you are a Sweat Club member, we will deliver your chickens to Sweat Club to convenient pickup.

5. Why do you do this?

From the heart... I've learned too much about insustrial meat chickens. I even considered going vegan for a while because I didn't want to contribute to that system. However, I like meat, and protein is essential.

I realized the animal departing was inevitable. I just had to accept that. However, how the animal is treated while it lives, and how it's death is honored is important to me. So, we decided to raise our own chickens.

The second reason... I don't trust our food system. Recent world events have proven how frail our food supply system is, and having some control of my own food supply feels secure.

And, a fun bonus is to provide high quality meat to my friends, family and neighbors at a reasonable price.

6. What do you feed them?

Because we rotationally graze, and each chicken eats a buffest of greens and bugs... not only does it provide nutrients to the soil, but it provides great nutrition to the chickens, which of course goes into you.

Grass and bugs are not enough. We do supplement feed with a tailored mix from the feed store. This does vary from season to season due to the reliance on other farmers, and resources available. I can tell you.... I spend at least 10 hours per year right before the season to find the best supply of feed I can. It's tedious work.
